Benzoin Resin from Indonesia is a natural aromatic resin obtained from the bark of Styrax benzoin, a tree native to the forests of Sumatra. Indonesia is considered the world’s most important origin for benzoin resin, with a long history of traditional harvesting that has been passed down through generations of forest communities.

The resin is collected by making careful incisions in the bark, allowing the fragrant sap to slowly exude and harden into amber-coloured “tears.” These resin pieces are then gathered by hand and naturally dried. The warm, humid tropical climate of Sumatra, combined with rich forest soils, contributes to the resin’s depth, sweetness, and aromatic richness.

Indonesian Benzoin Resin is renowned for its sweet, balsamic, and vanilla-like aroma, with soft caramel and resinous undertones. Compared to Siam benzoin, Sumatra benzoin is typically richer, darker, and more resinous, making it especially valued for grounding and comforting aromatic compositions.
