Forsythia Essential Oil is a rare and highly specialised oil distilled from the fruit of Forsythia suspensa, a plant revered in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for more than 2,000 years. Known as 连翘 (Lián Qiáo), forsythia has been documented in classical texts such as the Shénnóng Běncǎo Jīng (Divine Farmer’s Materia Medica), where it is traditionally associated with clearing heat and restoring internal balance.

Unlike many aromatic plants, forsythia produces only trace amounts of volatile compounds, making its essential oil naturally low-yield and uncommon. The fruit is harvested at a precise stage of maturity in China’s temperate and mountainous regions, where cool winters, warm summers, and well-drained soils support the plant’s slow development. The freshly dried fruit is then carefully steam distilled to capture its subtle aromatic profile.

Forsythia essential oil has a light, green-herbal aroma with soft medicinal and slightly woody undertones.
