Tasmania – Our Journey to Source the Purest Essential Oils in the World 

Sitting on the edge of the Southern Ocean, with Antarctica to the south, Tasmania is one of the most remote and pristine agricultural regions in the world. Its isolation, clean air, abundant rainfall, cool climate and low levels of industrial pollution create an extraordinary environment for growing aromatic plants. 

It is also home to some of the purest and most distinctive essential oils we have encountered anywhere in the world. 

For Farm Fresh Oils, Tasmania isn’t simply another place from which we source ingredients. We have developed close and, in many cases, exclusive relationships with Tasmanian growers and distillers producing oils of exceptional quality. 

Going to the Source 

Our Tasmanian farm visits take us into some of the most remote parts of Australia, travelling by RV across the island and following narrow, winding mountain roads through forests and farmland to reach growers far from major towns. 

We’ve camped overnight in temperatures as low as -5°C, woken to freezing mornings and driven through Tasmania’s famously changeable weather. But that’s part of going directly to the source. 

We want to walk the farms, see where the plants are grown, understand the environment and meet the people responsible for growing, harvesting and distilling the oils. 

Remarkable Tasmanian Oils 

Tasmania produces an extraordinary range of essential oils, including Fennel, Peppermint, Parsley, Kunzea, Southern Rosalina, Coastal Tea Tree and Eucalyptus globulus. 

Its geographic isolation and unpolluted environment provide growing conditions that are almost impossible to find elsewhere. Combined with experienced farmers, careful harvesting and specialist distillation, the result is essential oils of exceptional purity and character. 

Building Relationships with Growers 

Meeting farmers personally is one of the most important parts of what we do and is what sets us apart from other wholesalers. 

 
Sitting down with growers allows us to understand their crops, harvests, seasonal challenges and distillation techniques in a way that simply isn’t possible from a specification sheet or email. It also builds trust. 

Many of our relationships with Tasmanian producers extend well beyond a traditional buyer-and-seller arrangement. We work closely with growers, plan future requirements together and have developed exclusive supply relationships for selected oils. 

There’s something quite special about standing on a remote Tasmanian farm knowing that the oil produced there will eventually travel tens of thousands of kilometres to customers throughout Asia, Europe and the United States. 

There are easier ways to source essential oils than driving an RV across Tasmania, navigating winding mountain roads and camping in below freezing temperatures, but that’s how we do it at Farm Fresh Oils.
